David Wesley had emerged as a solid contributor in the NBA during his time with the Boston Celtics and continued to do so after joining the Charlotte Hornets as a free agent in July 1997.

A starter at both guard spots for the Hornets, Wesley helped Charlotte to four playoff appearances before leaving when the club moved to New Orleans in 2002.

In five seasons in Charlotte, Wesley averaged 14.5 points, 5.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 36 minutes per game, shooting .425/.354/.789.

Undrafted out of Baylor in 1992 after averaging 20.9 points per game as a senior, Wesley played the 1992-93 season in the Continental Basketball Association before landing a spot with the New Jersey Nets as a free agent in July 1993.

In July 1994, Wesley signed with the Celtics.

After the Hornets moved to New Orleans, Wesley was fourth in the NBA in three-point shooting in 2002-03.

He was traded in December 2004 to the Houston Rockets.

In September 2006, he signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In September 2007, he was traded back to New Orleans, but was traded again a month later to the Nets, who waived him two days later, prompting Wesley to retire.
