Charlotte Hornets: 25 Best Players To Play For The Hornets
By Phil Watson
Kemba Walker finished his junior year at Connecticut with a flourish.
The All-American who averaged more than 23 points a game was the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four after leading the Huskies to an unlikely national title.
The Charlotte Bobcats, shopping for a point guard, took Walker with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
He was fifth in the NBA in steals in 2012-13, but injuries have slowed him the last couple of seasons.
Last season, Walker leaped to a new level, averaging 20.9 points, 5.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 35.6 minutes per game on .427/.371/.847 shooting.
Among the highlights from 2015-16 was Walker setting a new franchise single-game record with a 52-point outburst against the Utah Jazz on Jan. 18.
He also put up 22.7 points per game in seven playoff games in a first-round loss.
In five seasons in Charlotte, Walker has averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 33.7 minutes per game, shooting .403/.334/.823.
Walker is under contract with the Hornets through 2018-19 on a four-year, $48 million extension he signed in October 2014.
