5 Bold Predictions For Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2016-17 Season
J.R. Smith Signs With The Los Angeles Lakers
Remember, this is supposed to be a bold prediction.
J.R. Smith still hasn’t signed a contract with the Cavaliers, leading to speculation that he could jump ship. While it’s known that his agent likes to play hardball, it’s clear Smith wants more money than the Cavaliers want to pay him.
If that is the case, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him open the door for other teams eventually. If Cleveland continues to avoid offering the $15 million annually he reportedly wants (via Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor), the Lakers could come into play.
They have that kind of money to offer, and obviously need more proven playmakers.
The Lakers also like spending ungodly amounts of money–just ask Timofey Mozgov.
It would be strange for Smith to go with Los Angeles over Cleveland, but he’ll likely follow the money. The Lakers have enough to get a deal done if they unload Nick Young, and have no problem bringing aboard aging veterans.
Crazier things have happened in the NBA.
