The Boston Celtics have added former Georgia Tech wing Marcus Georges-Hunt to their training camp roster.
According to Keith Smith of RealGM, the Boston Celtics have signed undrafted free agent Marcus Georges-Hunt to a non-guaranteed training camp contract.
Georges-Hunt, 22, spent his collegiate career at Georgia Tech, where he was a four-year starter and became one of the go-to scorers on the roster over the course of his time in Atlanta.
He played in 30 games or more in each of his four seasons and never averaged less than 28.9 minutes per game.
The 6’5″, 214-pound wing averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for his collegiate career, with his best statistical year coming last season as a senior, where he notched career bests in points (16.7), field goal percentage (45.4 percent), and assists (3.3).

Prior to joining Boston, Georges-Hunt played in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets, where he participated in four games, averaging 2.8 points and 1.0 rebound over 13.2 minutes per contest.

As far as the greater roster is concerned, the addition of Marcus Georges-Hunt gives the Celtics 19 players on their roster heading into training camp. Sixteen of the 19 contracts are fully guaranteed, and only 15 players can be carried on an active roster once the regular season begins.
With this being considered, it is extremely unlikely that Georges-Hunt will be on the active roster once the season begins.
However, if he performs well enough in training camp, the Celtics will more than likely be able to stick him on their team in the D-League, the Maine Red Claws, where they can monitor his development in hopes of him potentially becoming a contributor to the NBA team down the line.
It is not out of the realm of possibility, despite the high volume of players on the Celtics’ roster, that Georges-Hunt could be a fit in Boston, even if it is not this coming season.
The C’s have plenty of players at the guard position, but outside of Jae Crowder and their No. 3 overall pick, Jaylen Brown, the team is lacking depth on the wing.

This can surely be solved with the addition of Georges-Hunt to the active roster if his play warrants him sticking around with the Celtics’ organization.
Given where the team is at currently with their plethora of guards heading into the coming season, it seems more likely than not that the Celtics play multiple shooting guards in small ball lineups, or simply play two stretch-4s in lineups that don’t feature Crowder or Brown.
This, of course, would make it quite difficult to foresee a scenario where Georges-Hunt would be tabbed as an active roster addition this season for Boston.
However, if Georges-Hunt proves to be a player in training camp that the Celtics would like to keep, his play in a potential D-League stint would dictate how realistic his staying power in Boston would become.
If “Trader Danny Ainge” unloads some of his guards in a deal to bring in a star to accompany Isaiah Thomas and offseason acquisition Al Horford, there could be some roster spots to be had down the line, for which Georges-Hunt could ultimately become an outside candidate to consider.

Only time will tell how realistic a scenario such as this could become, but Marcus Georges-Hunt has gotten an opportunity as a rookie to perhaps find his niche within the Celtics organization in hopes of one day securing his place permanently on an NBA roster.
