John Havlicek bridged the Boston Celtics’ dynasty years and their two title-winners in the 1970s after being taken out of Ohio State with the seventh overall pick in the 1962 NBA Draft.

Beginning his career in Red Auerbach’s revolutionary sixth-man role, Havlicek went onto become the man for the Celtics later in his career.

A 13-time All-Star, Havlicek was also an 11-time All-NBA selection and eight-time All-Defensive pick and was named the MVP of the 1974 NBA Finals.

He also finished fourth in the MVP voting in 1971-72 and fifth in 1972-73, while leading the league in minutes per game in 1970-71 and 1971-72.

A member of eight NBA championship teams, Havlicek averaged 21.7 points per game in those eight NBA Finals appearances.

He retired after the 1977-78 season having spent his entire 16-year career in Boston. Havlicek averaged 20.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 36.6 minutes per game, shooting 43.9 percent from the floor and 81.5 percent from the foul line.

Havlicek was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984 and is 28th in NBA history with 1,270 games, 13th with 46,471 minutes played, 33rd with 6,114 assists, 15th with 26,395 points, 33rd with an average of 36.6 minutes per game and 42nd with an average of 20.8 points per game.
