How acquired: Trade, Phoenix Suns, June 1998.. PG. 1999-2004. Steve Nash. 2. player. 79

Steve Nash came to the Dallas Mavericks in a 1998 draft-night trade with the Phoenix Suns, acquired in exchange for Martin Muursepp, Bubba Wells, the rights to 19th overall pick Pat Garrity and a first-round selection in 1999.

Nash became a two-time All-Star in Dallas, as well as a two-time All-NBA performer. He was fifth in the league in 3-point shooting in 2001-02, finished in the top five in free-throw percentage four times and was third in assists in 2003-04.

But in July 2004, Nash opted to return to the Suns as a free agent.

In six seasons in Dallas, Nash averaged 14.6 points, 7.2 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 32.7 minutes per game, shooting .468/.416/.898.

Nash averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 assists per game as a senior at Santa Clara and the native of Canada was taken 15th overall by the Suns in the 1996 NBA Draft.

But his career exploded upon his return to Phoenix in 2004. Nash was named NBA MVP in consecutive seasons–2004-05 and 2005-06–and led the NBA in assists five times and in free-throw shooting twice.

In July 2012, he was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade deal, but retired due to back problems in March 2015.

Nash is also the NBA’s all-time leader in free-throw shooting with a .904 percentage, is 32nd in league history with 1,217 games, 42nd with 38,069 minutes played, 16th with 1,685 three-pointers, third with 10,335 assists, ninth with a three-point percentage of .428 and 10th with an average of 8.5 assists per game.
