Aguirre missed much of his rookie year with an injury, but when he was healthy, his career took off.

A three-time All-Star with the Mavericks, his selection in 1984 was the first ever for a Dallas player.

In 1983-84, he was second in the NBA in scoring.

But in February 1989, the Mavericks traded Aguirre to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Adrian Dantley and a 1991 first-round pick.

In parts of eight seasons in Dallas, Aguirre averaged 24.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 33.8 minutes per game, shooting .492/.305/.742.

With the Pistons, Aguirre was part of two NBA championship teams before he was waived in October 1993.

He signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Waived by the Clippers in February 1994, Aguirre retired.
