Tayshaun Prince had been through just about everything in more than a decade with the Detroit Pistons, holding a championship trophy aloft and struggling through multiple lottery seasons, before he was included in a three-team deal that sent him to the Memphis Grizzlies in January 2013.

The Grizzlies got Prince along with Austin Daye from the Pistons in exchange for Jose Calderon after acquiring Calderon, Ed Davis and a 2013 second-round pick from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi.

Prince was not the All-Defensive stalwart he had been earlier in his career, but he fit the Grit ‘n’ Grind of Memphis, starting 76 games in 2013-14, a season after helping the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals for the first time.

In January 2015, Prince was traded with a future first-round pick to the Boston Celtics as part of a three-team deal, with Memphis also trading Quincy Pondexter and a 2015 second-round pick to the New Orleans Pelicans and getting back Jeff Green from the Celtics and Russ Smith from New Orleans.

In parts of three seasons with the Grizzlies, Prince averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in 27.0 minutes per game, shooting .414/.350/.638.

A two-time All-American at Kentucky, Prince averaged 17.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a senior before Detroit selected him with the 23rd overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft.

He earned a starting role in his second season and the Pistons went on to win the title in 2004 and reach the NBA Finals in 2005. Prince was a four-time All-Defensive selection in Detroit.

His stay in Boston was not a long one–in February 2015, Prince was traded back to the Pistons in a three-team deal that included the Phoenix Suns.

In August 2015, Prince signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves as a free agent and last season averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 19.0 minutes per game, starting 44 of 77 games and shooting .445/.174/13-for-19.

He is unsigned for 2016-17.
