14. Drazen Petrovic, Yugoslavia

Drazen Petrovic was a case of life cut tragically too short through a car accident that killed him when he was 28.

From an NBA point of view, Petrovic had just started to find his feet and was showing us why he was going to be the best shooter ever. After two seasons where he struggled to find his feet in Portland, Petrovic was traded to the New Jersey Nets and that was where Harry met Sally.

Petrovic averaged more than 20 points per game for both seasons with the Nets on shooting percentages of better than 50 percent from the field and just less than 45 percent from the 3-point range in his two full seasons.

More hoops habit: 25 Best Players to Play for the Brooklyn Nets

Petrovic did average 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.9 steals per game for his short career. His statistics were on their way up when his career and life were cut short, which is why I rate his NBA contribution the way that I do.

So good was Petrovic’s play for the Nets, he was named to the All-NBA third team in 1992-93 in what turned out to be his last season in the NBA.

In three of Petrovic’s four NBA seasons he was in the top three in three-point shooting . What could have been.
