15. Rik Smits – Netherlands

Rik Smits, the Dunking Dutchman, played 12 seasons with the Indiana Pacers. The 7-foot-4 center was a good all round player. He was a reasonable scorer with 14.8 points per game over his 867 games.

He was also a reasonable rebounder with 6.1 per game, 2.6 of which were offensive rebounds.

Smits also averaged 1.3 blocks per game for a total of 1,111 blocks for his career, placing him 67th all time.

Smits helped Indiana into the playoffs 10 of the 12 seasons he played there through his consistent play and excellent rim protection.

It did not hurt to have Reggie Miller playing along side, but Smits had an excellent field goal percentage of 50.7 percent, which helped Indiana achieve this period of sustained success.

Smits was named to the 1988-89 All-Rookie first team. In 1998 he was named to his one and only All-Star appearance, not because he was not talented enough, but rather because he was almost criminally underrated.

Smits finished in the top 10 in the league twice in blocks and blocks per game.

Such was Smits desire to challenge every shot that came into the paint he did average 3.5 fouls per game over his career  but it only goes to show that his defensive efforts were always evident.
