New Orleans Pelicans: 25 Best Players To Play For The Pelicans
By Phil Watson
James Posey had just picked up his second championship ring when he signed with the New Orleans Hornets in July 2008.
He was on the down slope of his career, but provided the Hornets with valuable reserve minutes on the wing before he was traded in a four-team deal with Darren Collison to the Indiana Pacers in August 2010, with the Hornets acquiring Trevor Ariza from the Houston Rockets.
The New Jersey Nets were also involved in the swap.
In two seasons in New Orleans, Posey averaged 7.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 25.5 minutes per game, shooting .394/.354/.823.
Posey was the 18th overall pick out of Xavier by the Denver Nuggets in the 1999 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie selection in 1999-2000.
He was sent to the Rockets as part of a three-team deal in December 2002 and signed with the Memphis Grizzlies as a free agent in August 2003.
Posey was traded to the Miami Heat in a five-team trade in August 2005 and was part of Miami’s 2006 NBA championship team.
In August 2007, he signed as a free agent with the Boston Celtics, earning a second ring in 2008.
In December 2011, Posey was waived by the Pacers and opted to retire.
He is currently an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
