The New Orleans Pelicans were looking to secure their point guard for their new era when they acquired All-Star Jrue Holiday from the Philadelphia 76ers in July 2013.

They also acquired the rights to second-round pick Pierre Jackson in exchange for the rights to sixth overall pick Nerlens Noel and a 2014 first-round selection.

But Holiday’s time in New Orleans has been severely limited due to lingering problems with a stress fracture in his right tibia. He played in only 74 games in his first two seasons with the Pelicans as a result.

Last season, a healthier Holiday still missed 17 games as coach Alvin Gentry looked to manage his minutes. He started 23 of his 65 appearances and averaged 16.8 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 28.2 minutes per game, while shooting .439/.336/.843.

Those were his best numbers since his All-Star season with the 76ers in 2012-13.

In three seasons with the Pelicans, Holiday has averaged 15.6 points, 6.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 30.8 minutes a game on .443/.357/.839 shooting.

After a single season at UCLA, Holiday declared for the NBA Draft and was chosen 17th overall by Philadelphia in the 2009 NBA Draft.

But he evolved into a solid contributor, taking over as the starter at point guard as a rookie, and earned his first career All-Star nod in 2012-13, when he also was fourth in the NBA in assists.

Holiday is entering the final year of a four-year, $41 million extension he signed with the 76ers in October 2012.
