Eric Gordon was the biggest piece the New Orleans Hornets got back in a December 2011 trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, getting the shooting guard along with Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu and a first-round pick in 2012 in exchange for Chris Paul and two second-round selections in 2015.
The problem was that Gordon had trouble staying healthy with the Hornets/Pelicans, missing at least 18 games in each of his five seasons with the team.
Gordon left New Orleans to sign a four-year, $53 million deal with the
as a free agent on July 9, 2016.
Second in the NBA in 3-point shooting in 2014-15, Gordon missed 37 games last season with a fractured ring finger on his right hand, initially injuring it in January and then re-breaking the finger when he came back in March.
In 45 games in 2015-16, he averaged 15.2 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 32.9 minutes per game, shooting .418/.384/.888.
In five seasons in New Orleans, Gordon averaged 15.3 points, 3.3 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 32.3 minutes per game on .420/.390/.819 shooting.
Gordon was the seventh overall pick out of Indiana by the Clippers in the 2008 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie selection in 2008-09.
His new deal with the Rockets runs through 2019-20.
