LeBron James has finally re-signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers for three years and$100 million, which makes him the highest paid player in the NBA.

The wait is finally over for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the NBA world.

LeBron James has finally re-signed with the club. The deal is for three years and $100 million, which  is still a discount for one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Some started to believe that James would leave again since he didn’t re-sign right away, but there was never any need to worry.

After winning the first professional championship for the city of Cleveland since 1964, being back in Northeast Ohio and experiencing 1.3 million fans showing up downtown to celebrate the event, there shouldn’t have been any doubt that he wouldn’t be back with the team–and for many years to come.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com, the contract will make James the highest paid player in the NBA this upcoming season.

He will make $31 million in the first year of the deal, followed by $33 million during the 2017 season, which would make him the highest paid player in a season in league history.

Michael Jordan was the past leader in that category after earning $33 million during the 1997 season with the Chicago Bulls.

James will also have a player option after the second year of his deal. He will pick that option up and allow the Cavs to extend his contract to numbers that nobody has ever seen in the history of the NBA — and maybe even sports in general.

For the past few years, James has signed one-and-one deals — a two-year deal with a player option for the second season. Those made him a free agent after the season ended.

It was one of the reasons why the national media tried to spin the narrative of James leaving and going back to the Miami Heat or to another team.

Now, they have to find new material.

This signing means the world to Cavaliers fans. It finally gives them assurance that the biggest piece of the championship puzzle is coming back and all-in on winning another title.

They know Kyrie Irving is one of the best two-way guards in the NBA, that Tristan Thompson is one of the best offensive rebounders in the league, that J.R. Smith is one of the streakiest shooters to ever play, but none of it matters without the leader to control it, and that’s James.

This should assure fans even more than he will retire a Cavalier. With one signing down, it’s time for the next piece of the puzzle to fall into place, and that is Smith. Just as I mentioned in my last article, this could have been the move that he was waiting for before he signed.
