What’s Missing

Jimmy Butler has already established himself as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. His resume is strong enough to warrant star status, and his upside remains that of a genuine superstar.

The obvious question that must be answered: what’s missing?

First and foremost, Butler needs to overcome his injury woes and remain healthy for a full season. He plays a grueling style of basketball as a lockdown defender who averages nearly 40 minutes per game, but the issue remains.

Butler has missed at least 15 games due to injury in three consecutive seasons.

Furthermore, Butler needs to improve his consistency as a playmaker and all-around scoring ability. He also needs to improve his jump shot, which is more erratic than it is faulty or broken.

Butler has shot 37.8 percent or better from 3-point range in two of the past four seasons, but shot 31.2 percent or worse in the other two.
