Minnesota Timberwolves: 25 Best Players To Play For The Timberwolves
By Phil Watson
Ryan Gomes had been an All-Rookie selection with the Boston Celtics prior to a massive July 2007 trade in which the Minnesota Timberwolves sent franchise icon Kevin Garnett to Boston in exchange for Gomes, Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and two first-round picks in 2009.
He got regular duty at both forward positions for the rebuilding Timberwolves until he was traded on draft night in 2010 along with the rights to 16th overall pick Luke Babbitt to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Martell Webster.
In three seasons in Minnesota, Gomes averaged 12.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 30.2 minutes per game, shooting .444/.360/.821.
Gomes was a second-round pick out of Providence by the Celtics in the 2005 NBA Draft.
Portland waived Gomes in June 2010 and he signed 10 days later with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Waived by the Clippers in July 2012, Gomes played in Germany in 2012-13 before returning to the NBA as a free agent with the Oklahoma City Thunder in August 2013.
He was part of a 3-team trade in January 2014 that sent him back to the Celtics, who immediately waived him.
He played one game in Spain in 2014-15 before he was released in October 2014 and played last season in the D-League before retiring and being named an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets‘ new D-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.
