Wally Szczerbiak had earned All-America honors as a senior at Miami (Ohio) by averaging more than 24 points and eight rebounds a game for a mid-major that made a shocking run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

The Minnesota Timberwolves took the sharp-shooting small forward with the sixth overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft and Szczerbiak delivered an All-Rookie campaign in 1999-2000 and an All-Star nod in 2002.

He was fifth in the NBA in field-goal percentage in 2000-01 and was fourth in 3-point shooting in 2001-02 and fifth in 2002-03.

But in January 2006, Szczerbiak was traded with Michael Olowokandi, Dwayne Jones and a first-round pick in 2009 to the Boston Celtics for Ricky Davis, Marcus Banks, Mark Blount, Justin Reed and second-round selections in 2006 and 2008.

In parts of seven seasons in Minnesota, Szczerbiak averaged 15.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 33.6 minutes per game, shooting .500/.404/.855.

Szczerbiak was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in June 2007 and in February 2008 was sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team deal. He opted to retire in 2009 after having a career-ending surgical procedure performed on his left knee.

He is 22nd in NBA history with a 3-point percentage of .406 and 38th with a free-throw percentage of .860.
