How acquired: 3rd overall pick from Duke, 1992 NBA Draft.. PF-C. 1992-96. Christian Laettner. 9. player. 86

Christian Laettner had been a Final Four Most Outstanding Player and was the consensus player of the year nationally as a senior at Duke before he was the token collegiate player on the legendary 1992 U.S. Olympic basketball team dubbed the “Dream Team.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Laettner with the third overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft and, while he was an All-Rookie selection in 1992-93, the impression always was that Laettner underachieved.

In parts of four seasons in Minnesota, Laettner averaged 17.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 34.6 minutes per game, shooting .474/.235/.814.

Laettner was an All-Star with Atlanta in 1997 before he was traded to the Detroit Pistons in January 1999.

In August 2000, he was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks and in February 2001, he was swapped to the Washington Wizards.

In June 2004, Laettner was traded back to the Mavericks, but two months later was traded to the Golden State Warriors, who waived him in September of that year.

Six days later, he signed with the Miami Heat, retiring after the 2004-05 season, save for a brief comeback in the new American Basketball Association in 2011-12.
