Tyrone Corbin was an original member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, chosen from the Phoenix Suns as the second of 11 players taken by the Wolves in the June 1989 expansion draft.
He was by far the best of the bunch, finishing fifth in the NBA in minutes per game in 1990-91.
and a second-round pick in 1992.
In parts of three seasons in Minnesota, Corbin averaged 16.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and two steals in 37.4 minutes per game, shooting .459/.091/.791.
Corbin was a second-round pick of the San Antonio Spurs out of DePaul in the 1985 NBA Draft and was with them until he was waived in January 1987, signing three days later with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In February 1988, he was traded to Phoenix.
Utah traded Corbin to the Atlanta Hawks in September 1994 and he was dealt to the Sacramento Kings in June 1995.
In February 1996, Corbin was on the move to the Miami Heat, who released him in July 1996. He returned to the Hawks as a free agent in September 1996 and remained with them until he was waived in August 1999.
Corbin returned to Sacramento as a free agent in October 1999. He then signed with the Toronto Raptors in October 2000 and was traded to the Detroit Pistons in February 2001 and waived a day later.
He opted to retire at that point.
Corbin was coach of the Jazz from February 2011 until he was fired after the 2013-14 season, posting a record of 112-146 and going 0-4 in the playoffs.
He was interim coach of the Kings for two months last season, going 7-21 after replacing Michael Malone before being dumped in favor of George Karl at the All-Star break. He joined Earl Watson‘s staff as an assistant with the Suns on June 25, 2016.
