Ricky Pierce wasn’t the headliner in a September 1984 trade with the Los Angeles Clippers that also brought the Milwaukee Bucks Terry Cummings and Craig Hodges in exchange for Marques Johnson, Junior Bridgeman, Harvey Catchings and cash.
But he turned into a star with the Bucks as a reserve. Pierce was the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 1986-87 and 1989-90 and an All-Star in 1991 before he was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in February 1991 in exchange for Dale Ellis.
Pierce returned to the Bucks as a free agent in December 1997, retiring in the summer of 1998.
In parts of eight seasons in Milwaukee, Pierce averaged 16.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and two assists in 26.2 minutes per game, shooting .516/.305/.865.
Pierce was the 18th overall pick out of Rice by the Detroit Pistons in the 1982 NBA Draft and was traded to the San Diego Clippers in October 1983.
In July 1994, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors and left in October 1995 to sign as a free agent with the Indiana Pacers.
Pierce was traded to the Denver Nuggets in June 1996 and dealt to the Charlotte Hornets in February 1997.
He was waived in August 1997 by the Hornets and played briefly in Greece before returning to Milwaukee.
Pierce is 18th in NBA history with a free-throw percentage of .875.
