The Milwaukee Bucks acquired Jay Humphries from the Phoenix Suns in February 1988 in exchange for Craig Hodges and a second-round pick in 1988.

The point guard gave the Bucks solid, if not spectacular, play for the next four years before being dealt with Larry Krystkowiak to the Utah Jazz in June 1992 in exchange for Eric Murdock, Blue Edwards and a first-round pick in 1992.

In parts of five seasons in Milwaukee, Humphries averaged 13.4 points, six assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 31.8 minutes per game, shooting .486/.314/.792.

Humphries was the 13th overall pick out of Colorado by the Suns in the 1984 NBA Draft. In February 1995, he was traded to the Boston Celtics and retired when his rights were renounced in September 1995.

Humphries was a head coach in Korea for two seasons (2005-07), in the D-League for two seasons (2008-10) and also for a season in China (2010-11).
