Left for finished by the NBA after missing the better part of two seasons following a severe knee injury, Bernard King was signed by the Washington Bullets in October 1987 and set about the business of proving the NBA wrong.

He was an All-Star in 1991 and an All-NBA pick in 1990-91 for the Bullets, finishing third in the NBA in scoring.

But King missed the 1991-92 campaign after another surgical procedure on his knee and never played for the Bullets again, being released in January 1993.

In four seasons in Washington, King averaged 22.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 32.7 minutes per game, shooting .483/.177/.796.

Taken seventh overall out of Tennessee by the New Jersey Nets in the 1977 NBA Draft, King was an All-Rookie performer in 1977-78 before being traded to the Utah Jazz in October 1979.

Run out of Utah after legal problems, he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors in September 1980 and was named an All-Star in 1982, also earning All-NBA honors.

In October 1982, King was traded to the New York Knicks. A two-time All-Star with the Knicks and a two-time All-NBA selection, King led the NBA in scoring in 1984-85 before injuring his knee.

In February 1993, he returned to New Jersey as a free agent, retiring after the 1992-93 campaign.

King is 43rd in NBA history with 19,655 points and 24th with an average of 22.5 points per game. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
