SF. 1966-72. Jack Marin. 22. player. 142. How acquired: 5th overall pick from Duke, 1966 NBA Draft.

Jack Marin was an All-American at Duke as a senior and the Baltimore Bullets added the sharp-shooting small forward with the fifth overall pick in the 1966 NBA Draft.

Marin was an All-Rookie selection in 1966-67 and became a starter the following year, earning an All-Star berth in 1972. He also led the NBA in free-throw shooting in 1971-72.

In the 1971 NBA Finals, Marin led the Bullets with an average of 18.3 points per game, also averaging 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 40.5 percent shooting from the field and going 9-for-10 at the line in the four-game sweep by the

Milwaukee Bucks

.

In June 1972, Marin was half of what has become known as one of the most lopsided trades ever, sent to the Houston Rockets straight up for Elvin Hayes.

That’s not to imply Marin was a bad player. In six seasons in Baltimore, Marin averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 31 minutes per game, shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 83.8 percent at the line.

Marin was an All-Star with the Rockets in 1973, but was traded in February 1974 to the Buffalo Braves.

In November 1975, he was dealt to the Chicago Bulls, retiring after the 1976-77 season.
