Ellison had his moments, earning NBA Most Improved Player honors in 1991-92, but he never was able to start more than 64 games in a season while with the Bullets, who released him in April 1994.

In four seasons in Washington, Ellison averaged 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and two assists in 30.8 minutes per game, shooting .520/1-for-16/.701.

Ellison was the first overall pick out of Louisville by the Kings in the 1989 NBA Draft. He signed with the Boston Celtics in August 1994 and signed with the Seattle SuperSonics in October 2000.

Waived in December 2000, Ellison retired after a 12-year career in which he was only able to play in 474 out of a possible 895 games.

He is 49th in NBA history with an average of 1.6 blocks per game.
