The consensus player of the year as a senior at Saint Joseph’s, Jameer Nelson came to the Orlando Magic in a draft night trade in June 2004, with Orlando acquiring the rights to the 20th overall pick from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for a first-round pick in 2005.

Nelson was an All-Rookie selection while playing mostly as a backup his first two years with the Magic, emerging as a starter in 2006-07.

He was an All-Star in 2009, the same year Orlando returned to the NBA Finals, losing to the

Los Angeles Lakers

. He was second in the NBA in 3-point shooting that season, hitting 45.3 percent of his long-distance tries.

Nelson came off the bench in the Finals after missing 40 regular-season games and the first three rounds of the playoffs with a shoulder injury.

He averaged 3.8 points, 2.8 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 18.0 minutes per game, shooting .348/1-for-6/2-for-4 in the five-game loss to the Lakers.

An era ended in June 2014 when the Magic waived the 10-year veteran.

In 10 seasons with Orlando, Nelson averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 29.2 minutes per game, shooting .442/.374/.817.

Nelson signed a free-agent deal with the Dallas Mavericks in July 2014, but was traded to the Boston Celtics in December 2014.

His stay in Boston was short—in January, he was dealt to Denver.

Nelson has two years remaining on the three-year, $13.8 million deal he signed with the Nuggets in August 2015.
