Stephen Curry

It’s not going to happen.

But Bleacher Report Spotlight’s Ric Bucher believes the Spurs would aggressively pursue Stephen Curry, a free agent next summer, especially if the Golden State Warriors fail to win the championship.

"“I think the Spurs are looking at the fact that Kevin Durant came into Golden State and that Kevin Durant may take up some of the superstar space that was previously occupied by Steph Curry…and when Steph becomes a free agent, I think they are going to go hard at him,” Bucher said on Bleacher Report Radio."

Curry is most likely going to emulate Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki and finish his career playing with just one franchise. But who knows what the future has in store?

More hoops habit: 25 Best Players To Play For The Golden State Warriors

Curry’s personality definitely fits the Spurs school of thought. But we’d have to take a raincheck on the playing style. Curry is Curry when he attempts more than 10 threes per game. During the 2015-16 season, the reigning MVP averaged 11.2 3PA per game.

The Spurs, as a team, averaged only 18.5 attempts.

This isn’t to insinuate that Curry is a selfish player who jacks up too many shots. He just has the green light from Steve Kerr. It’s hard to foresee Kerr’s mentor, Gregg Popovich, allowing so many half court, no-pass, dribble and pull-up threes; not with the kind of offense he prefers to run.

Having said that, Popovich would be forced to alter his playbook for Curry, a generational talent. Who are we kidding? Pop would allow Curry 20 threes a game if that’s the price to get him.
