The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to shake up their frontcourt rotation in January 1988 when they acquired Mike Gminski and Ben Coleman from the New Jersey Nets in exchange for Roy Hinson, Tim McCormick and a second-round pick in 1989.

Gminski was a solid shooter for a big man, finishing fourth in the NBA in free-throw shooting in 1987-88.

The seventh overall pick out of Duke by the Nets in the 1980 NBA Draft, Gminski was later traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in February 1994. Unsigned as a free agent after the 1993-94 season, Gminski returned to Charlotte to retire in September.
