Elton Brand was a two-time All-Star but represented a major risk when the Philadelphia 76ers signed him in July 2008, as he was coming back from a season-ending Achilles injury.

His first season with the 76ers was cut short by shoulder surgery and he never got back his previous star form before being released via the NBA’s amnesty clause in July 2012.

On Jan. 4, 2016, Brand ended a brief retirement and signed for a second stint with the 76ers. Appearing in just 17 games, Brand averaged 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game while shooting .431/0-for-1/8-for-9

In five seasons in Philadelphia, Brand averaged 12.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals in 30.4 minutes per game, shooting .488/0-for-4/.746.

Brand was a No. 1 overall pick out of Duke by the Chicago Bulls in the 1999 NBA Draft and shared Rookie of the Year honors with Steve Francis of the Houston Rockets in 1999-2000.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in June 2001 and was a two-time All-Star and an All-NBA pick in 2005-06 while in L.A.

He signed with the Dallas Mavericks the day after his release by the 76ers and signed with the Atlanta Hawks in July 2013. He announced his retirement from the NBA in August 2015 before returning to Philadelphia in January.

Brand is 20th in NBA history with 1,828 blocked shots and 36th with an average of 1.7 blocks per game.

He is currently unsigned for the 2016-17 season.
