Dorian Finney-Smith

  • Age: 23
  • Height: 6’8″
  • College: Florida

Dorian Finney-Smith serves as one of the many impressive college players that went undrafted back in June. He was another player to receive a three-year, partially guaranteed minimum deal from the Mavs.

As the premier player for the Florida Gators last season, Finney-Smith led the team in points per game (14.7) and rebounds per game (8.3). He went on to play 31.8 minutes a game while shooting 44 percent from the field.

While Finney-Smith is listed as a small forward, I would argue that he is capable of playing some power forward.

His 6’8″ height would make him slightly undersized for the position, but he would have a much better chance at making the roster that way, as the Mavs have always struggled to put depth behind Dirk Nowitzki.

As for Finney-Smith’s game, it’s sort of a mix between a guard and a forward. He’s capable of hitting outside shots, as he shot 37 percent from three last season, but he works well inside the paint by tipping in missed shots and collecting rebounds.

Florida head coach Mike White had this to say about him (via nba.com):

"“But I think [Finney-Smith] is a guy that right now is ready. He played in the Final Four. He can contribute to a winner, get out there and not hurt you, guard a couple of positions.”"

Finley-Smith brings solid defense into the equation too. As Smith stated, he’s capable of guarding “a couple of positions,” which is something every team would like to get out of a player.
