The New Jersey Nets, shopping as they often were for scoring, went with two-time All-American Kerry Kittles with the eighth overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. Kittles had averaged more than 20 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior at Villanova.
He was an All-Rookie selection in 1996-97 for the Nets and bounced back from missing the entire 2000-01 season with a knee injury to help the team to back-to-back NBA Finals.
In the 2002 NBA Finals, Kittles averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 assists, two rebounds and 1.5 steals in 26.5 minutes per game, shooting .452/5-for-16/7-for-10 in a four-game sweep at the hands of the

The following year in a six-game loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Kittles averaged 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.3 assists in 31.3 minutes per game, shooting .377/.304/12-for-15.
In July 2004, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a second-round pick in 2005.
In seven seasons in New Jersey, Kittles averaged 14.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals in 33.6 minutes per game, shooting .439/.378/.781.
Kittles was limited to just 11 games with the Clippers because of knee problems and retired after he was waived in August 2005.
