Bernard King was an All-American twice in his three years at Tennessee, opting to turn pro after his junior year during which he averaged almost 26 points and more than 14 rebounds per game.

The New Jersey Nets were looking for scoring punch and took King with the seventh overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft.

King would later re-sign with New Jersey in February 1993, and finished his career with the Nets, retiring after the 1992-93 season.

In parts of three seasons in New Jersey, King averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 33.1 minutes per game, shooting .500/2-for-7/.616.

Suspended much of the 1979-80 campaign because of off-the-court issues, King was traded in September 1980 to the Golden State Warriors, where he revived his career, earning an All-Star nod in 1982 and All-NBA status in 1981-82.

In October 1982, he was traded to the New York Knicks, where he was a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection and led the NBA in scoring in 1984-85.

He signed with the Washington Bullets in October 1987 and was an All-Star in 1991 and an All-NBA pick in 1990-91.

King was waived by the Bullets in January 1993.

He is 43rd in NBA history with 19,655 points and 24th with an average of 22.5 points per game.

King was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
