Brooklyn Nets: 25 Best Players To Play For The Nets
By Phil Watson
The New Jersey Nets were preparing for their move to Brooklyn and wanted to bring in a big name, acquiring All-Star Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz in February 2011 in exchange for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, first-round picks in 2011 and 2013 and cash.
Williams was an All-Star in 2012 for the Nets and was third in the NBA in assists in 2010-11 and fifth in 2011-12 and 2012-13, but the general consensus was that he underwhelmed in Brooklyn. His contract was bought out in July 2015.
In parts of five seasons in New Jersey and Brooklyn, Williams averaged 16.6 points, 7.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 34.2 minutes per game, shooting .418/.358/.836.
He was the third overall pick out of Illinois by the Jazz in the 2005 NBA Draft and was a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection with Utah.
Williams signed with the Dallas Mavericks in July 2015 and after declining his option for 2016-17, re-signed with Dallas July 8, 2016, for one year and $9 million.
He is 24th in NBA history with 6,459 assists and 12th with an average of 8.3 assists per game.
