The Denver Rockets outmaneuvered the Boston Celtics in the summer of 1971, signing fifth-round draft pick Dave Robisch from Kansas. The Celtics had selected the All-American center in the third round of the 1971 NBA Draft.
Robisch was a solid shooter for a big man, finishing third in the ABA in free-throw percentage in 1974-75.

He never played for the Claws, who folded before the 1975-76 ABA season, and Robisch was selected in a dispersal draft by the Spirits of St. Louis, who traded him immediately to the San Diego Sails.
In November 1975, Robisch was in another dispersal draft after the Sails folded, selected by the Indiana Pacers.
In December 1977, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and in October 1979, Robisch was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He returned to Denver in October 1980, acquired from Cleveland in exchange for Kim Hughes, a third-round pick in 1981 and a second-round selection in 1982.
Robisch remained with the Nuggets in his second stint until he was waived in December 1983.
In parts of eight seasons with Denver, Robisch averaged 12.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24.6 minutes per game, shooting .471/0-for-8/.781.
He signed a 10-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs in January 1984 before being waived in February. In March of that year, he signed with the Kansas City Kings, who waived him in July 1984.
Robisch is 19th in ABA history with 173 blocked shots and 24th with an average of 8.4 rebounds per game.
