The Denver Nuggets made one of their best trades ever in February 1980, sending George McGinnis to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Alex English and a first-round pick in 1980.

English was an eight-time All-Star in Denver, earning three All-NBA nods and leading the league in scoring in 1982-83.

He was also third in the NBA in scoring in 1985-86 and 1986-87, fourth in both 1981-82 and 1983-84 and fifth in 1984-85.

English spent almost the entire decade of the 1980s with the Nuggets, leaving to sign as an unrestricted free agent with the Dallas Mavericks in August 1990.

In parts of 11 seasons with Denver, English averaged 25.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and a steal in 35.7 minutes per game, shooting .509/.228/.840.

A second-round pick by the Milwaukee Bucks out of South Carolina in the 1976 NBA Draft, English signed with the Pacers as a veteran free agent in June 1978. After leaving Denver, he was released by the Mavericks in May 1991 and played a season in Italy before retiring.

He is 39th in NBA history with 1,193 games, 44th with 38,063 minutes played, 18th with 25,613 points and 33rd with an average of 21.5 points per game.
