Unwanted in the NBA, the Denver Rockets gave Larry Jones a home as one of the original members of the team in 1967.

Jones repaid that faith as a three-time All-Star and three-time All-ABA selection, leading the circuit in scoring in 1968-69 while finishing fifth in both 1967-68 and 1969-70, finishing fifth in minutes per game in 1967-68 and fourth in 1968-69 and finishing fourth in assists in 1969-70.

In three seasons with the Rockets, Jones averaged 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 40.5 minutes per game, shooting .443/.238/.782.

A third-round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1964 NBA Draft, Jones was waived in December 1964 and played two seasons in the Eastern Basketball League before coming to the ABA.

After the Floridians folded in June 1972, Jones was selected by the Utah Stars in a dispersal draft and was traded to the Dallas Chaparrals in December 1972. He jumped back to the NBA when he signed with Philadelphia in September 1973 and retired after he was waived in October 1974.

He was 22nd in ABA history with 16,721 minutes played, 16th with 152 3-pointers and 9,651 points, 18th with 1,760 assists, 23rd with a 3-point percentage of .277, ninth with averages of 36.7 minutes and 21.2 points per game and 17th with an average of 3.9 assists per game.
