Marcus Camby had struggled to find a niche through the first six years of his NBA career, battling injuries and never quite fitting in. All that changed with a draft night trade in June 2002.

The Denver Nuggets acquired Camby along with Mark Jackson and the rights to No. 7 overall pick Nene from the New York Knicks in exchange for Antonio McDyess, the rights to 25th overall selection Frank Williams and a second-round pick in 2003.

Camby went on to be named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2006-07 and earned four All-Defensive nods while in Denver.

He led the NBA in blocks three straight seasons, 2005-06 through 2007-08, finished second in 2004-05 and was fifth in 2003-04. He also finished fifth in rebounding in 2006-07 and second in 2007-08.

In July 2008, however, Camby was traded with a second-round pick in 2010 to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a 2010 second-round selection.

In six seasons with the Nuggets, Camby averaged 10.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, three blocks, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.7 minutes per game, shooting .462/.205/.715.

The second overall pick of the Toronto Raptors out of Massachusetts in the 1996 NBA Draft, Camby was traded to New York in June 1998.

After leaving Denver, Camby was traded by the Clippers to the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2010.

In July 2012, he was dealt back to the Knicks and in July 2013, Camby was traded back to Toronto, where he was waived a week later. Twelve days after that, Camby signed as a free agent with the Houston Rockets.

Waived before the season started in October 2013, Camby opted to retire.

He is 42nd in NBA history with 9,513 rebounds, 12th with 2,331 blocked shots and 14th with an average of 2.4 blocks per game.
