Denver Nuggets: 25 Best Players To Play For The Nuggets
By Phil Watson
Michael Adams had bounced around on the fringe of the NBA for two seasons before catching a break in November 1987 when he was acquired by the Denver Nuggets along with Jay Vincent from the Washington Bullets in exchange for Darrell Walker and Mark Alarie.
Adams led the NBA in 3-pointers in 1988-89 and 1989-90 and was second in 1987-88 and 1990-91 and finished third in the league in assists in 1990-91, as well.
But in June 1991, Adams was traded back to the Bullets with a first-round pick in 1991 and a second-round selection in 1993 in exchange for a 1991 first-rounder.
In four seasons in Denver, Adams averaged 18.2 points, 7.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and two steals in 34.9 minutes per game, shooting .417/.342/.850.
A third-round pick by the Sacramento Kings out of Boston College in the 1985 NBA Draft, Adams was waived by the Kings in December of that year and played in the USBL and Continental Basketball Association before landing with the Bullets, who had waived him twice earlier that year, in November 1986.
After leaving the Nuggets, Adams was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in August 1994 and retired after he was released in July 1996.
Adams was head coach of the WNBA’s Washington Mystics for one season, 2004.
Adams is 41st in NBA history with an average of 6.4 assists per game and 49th with an average of 1.7 steals per game.
