Mickey Johnson was a Division III sensation at tiny Aurora College in suburban Chicago, averaging almost 28 points and more than 21 rebounds per game as a senior, and the Chicago Bulls brought the Lindblom Technical alumnus home in a September 1974 trade, sending a third-round pick in 1975 to the Portland Trail Blazers for the rookie.

After hardly playing in his first year, Johnson emerged as the Bulls’ starting power forward and was particularly adept on the offensive glass.

In five seasons in Chicago, Johnson averaged 15.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 30.3 minutes per game, shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 79.9 percent at the line.

Johnson was a fourth-round pick by the Trail Blazers in the 1974 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in September 1980 and in November 1982 was dealt to the New Jersey Nets.

In February 1983, Johnson was traded to the Golden State Warriors and was sent back to the Nets in an August 1985 trade. He retired after the 1985-86 season.
