Chicago Bulls: 25 Best Players To Play For The Bulls
By Phil Watson
In his lone season at Memphis, Derrick Rose was an All-American, averaging nearly 15 points, five assists and five rebounds per game while leading the Tigers to the national title game. The Chicago Bulls won the lottery and chose Rose with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.
Rose was the Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 and earned MVP honors in 2010-11. He is a three-time All-Star and was an All-NBA selection in 2010-11.
But he struggled to come back from a knee injury sustained in the 2012 NBA Playoffs that caused him to miss the entire 2012-13 season. He injured his other knee early in 2013-14 and played in just 10 games.
He played in 66 games in 2015-16, the most he’d appeared since before his first knee injury, and averaged 16.4 points, 4.7 assists (both career lows) and 3.4 rebounds per game on .427/.293/.793 shooting
In seven seasons in Chicago, Rose averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 35.0 minutes per game, shooting .448/.302/.813.
The Rose era in Chicago ended on June 22, 2016, when he was traded with Justin Holiday and a second-round pick in the 2017 draft to the New York Knicks for Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant.
He has one year remaining on the five-year, $94.3 million contract extension he signed in December 2011.
Rose is 46th in NBA history with an average of 6.2 assists per game.
