Chicago Bulls: 2015-16 Season Awards
Sixth Man of the Year: Doug McDermott
The Bulls thought so highly of Doug McDermott going into the 2014 draft that they exchanged two first-round picks with the Denver Nuggets so they could take him at No. 11.
During his rookie campaign, McDermott struggled, as he averaged 3.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per contest in 36 appearances (due to a knee injury) while shooting just 31.7 percent from the three-point range.
During Hoiberg’s first year, however, McDermott blossomed to say the least. Case in point, his averages improved to 9.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest.
His overall shooting percentage increased from 40 to 45 percent, and he connected on 42.5 percent of his attempts from three-point range, which was the sixth-highest percentage in the league.
It is also worth mentioning that McDermott averaged 11.5 points per game on 55 percent shooting in four appearances as a starter. This may be a small sample size, but the numbers prove that he can be just as effective in the starting lineup as he is coming off the bench.
