Utah Jazz: 25 Best Players To Play For The Jazz
By Phil Watson
The Utah Jazz landed a gem when they signed free agent swingman Matt Harpring as a free agent in August 2002.
Troubled by injuries off and on through his stay with the Jazz, Harpring started and was a key player off the bench for several years before his career ended after a post-surgery infection in his ankle limited his mobility.
Already sidelined, his contract was included in a December 2009 trade that also sent Eric Maynor to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for the rights to 2002 second-round pick Peter Fehse.
In seven seasons in Utah, Harpring averaged 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 25.8 minutes per game, shooting .490/.344/.752. He does not appear on any of the franchise’s all-time lists.
He was the 15th overall pick out of Georgia Tech by the Orlando Magic in the 1998 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie selection in 1998-99.
Harpring was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in August 2000 and was dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers in August 2001.
He retired after being waived by the Thunder in February 2010.
