Thurl Bailey had been a key performer for one of college basketball’s greatest Cinderella stories, averaging almost 17 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior for a North Carolina State team that shocked the nation with a national title.
The Utah Jazz took the combo forward with the seventh overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft and he was an All-Rookie selection in 1983-84.

Bailey returned to the Jazz as a free agent after the lockout ended in January 1999 and retired after the season.
In parts of 10 seasons in Utah, Bailey averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 blocks in 29 minutes per game, shooting .474/.125/.812.
Bailey signed to play in Greece in 1994 and also played three seasons in Italy before returning to the NBA with the Jazz.
