The Sacramento Kings were on the road to another season without postseason play, off to a 5-13 start, when they made a major move on Dec. 9, 2013.

The Kings sent Greivis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson, Chuck Hayes and John Salmons to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray.

Gay went on to average more than 20 points a game after coming to Sacramento in 2013-14 and followed that up by putting up 21.1 points a night in 2014-15 before his role changed a bit last season.

Gay’s scoring average fell to 17.2 points per game and while his rebounding improved from 5.9 per game to 6.5, he sort of stopped sharing the ball, falling from 3.7 assists per game to just 1.7.

In parts of three seasons, Gay is averaging 19.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 34.6 minutes per game on .465/.342/.830 shooting.

Gay signed a three-year contract extension in November 2014 and remains under contract through 2016-17, with a player option for 2017-18.
