The Sacramento Kings changed the dynamic of the franchise in January 2006 when they acquired Ron Artest—later known as Metta World Peace—from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Peja Stojakovic.

Artest was a former Defensive Player of the Year in Indiana and was an All-Defensive pick in 2005-06. He was also second in the league in steals in both 2006-07 and 2007-08.

and a first-round pick in 2009.

In parts of three seasons in Sacramento, Artest averaged 18.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals in 38.4 minutes per game, shooting .431/.349/.728.

Taken 16th overall by the Chicago Bulls out of St. John’s in the 1999 NBA Draft, Artest waas traded to the Pacers in February 2002. In Indiana, he was an All-Star in 2004, an All-NBA pick in 2003-04 and twice named All-Defensive.

After leaving the Kings, Artest was an All-Defensive pick for Houston in 2008-09 before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent in July 2009.

Part of a championship team in 2010 with the Lakers, World Peace was waived in July 2013 and signed with the New York Knicks five days later.

Waived in February 2014, World Peace played in China and Italy in 2014-15 before returning to the Lakers as a free agent in September 2015.

World Peace is currently unsigned for 2016-17.

He is 22nd in NBA history with 1,711steals and 35th with an average of 1.8 steals per game.
