1. Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are the only rational choice for the No. 1 spot on this list. The Warriors may have lost a valuable starter in Harrison Barnes and a significant amount of depth, but let’s not be silly.

The superstar who’s replacing Barnes and that depth just so happens to be one of the Top 3 players in the NBA.

Kevin Durant won the 2014 NBA MVP award, has five All-NBA first team selections, and is a four-time scoring champion. He’s done all of this before his 28th birthday, which implies that he still hasn’t peaked.

For perspective, the only other players in NBA history who have an MVP award, at least five All-NBA First Team nods, and four scoring titles are Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.

Though Golden State lost some of its depth, it also added veterans who were willing to sign for well below their market value: Zaza Pachulia and David West. Furthermore, it drafted Damian Jones and Patrick McCaw—both of whom have starting-caliber potential.

No matter what else it did or didn’t do, the only thing that matters here is that Golden State signed Durant.

The most improved team in 2016 is the team that won 73 games in 2015-16 and the NBA championship in 2014-15.
