The Oklahoma City Thunder have allowed Dion Waiters to become an unrestricted free agent. A look at some of the best fits for the shooting guard around the league.

On Monday, the Oklahoma City Thunder rescinded their qualifying offer to 24-year-old shooting guard Dion Waiters, effectively making him an unrestricted free agent. The decision was first reported by The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The move helps give the Thunder cap space to help negotiate a contract extension for Russell Westbrook, in order to avoid having his looming 2017 free agency hanging over the team all season right after losing Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors.

The status of Dion Waiters going from restricted to unrestricted free agency will likely heat up the market for him, given his age and the Thunder’s inability to match any offers that come his way.
Restricted free agency typically causes teams to overpay in order to discourage the team owning the free agent’s rights from matching. Now Waiters is still a relatively young shooting guard that a team could take a chance on, looking to find a diamond in the rough.
Here are some teams that should take a chance on signing Waiters.
