5. What Can Bulls Expect From Denzel Valentine?

After parting ways with city’s native son in Derrick Rose, the Bulls wanted to bolster their backcourt heading into the draft. So with the No. 14 pick, they selected Denzel Valentine from Michigan State University.

Valentine can run an offense, play at all three perimeter positions and is considered one of the best all-around players in the draft. During his senior season, he averaged 19.2 points, 7.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds per contest on shooting splits of .462/.444/.853.

Through the first four games of Summer League competition, however, Valentine has struggled with his shooting efficiency to say the least. Although he is averaging a respectable 11.8 points per contest, he has converted 19 of his 55 attempts overall (34.5 percent) and just four of his 26 attempts from three-point range (15.4 percent).

Whether his early struggles will continue remains to be seen. And with the departures of Mike Dunleavy and Jose Calderon, both of whom were respectable shooters from distance, the Bulls will need players who can knock down the long ball.

That being said, will Valentine be able to carve out a spot in the rotation if his shooting woes continue?
