5. The First Title

The San Antonio Spurs stormed through the ’99 playoffs to say the least. In the first round, they knocked off the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.

In the second round, they swept Shaq and the Lakers, and followed that up with a sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals.

By the time Game 5 of this series rolled around, the Spurs were up 3-1 over the short-handed New York Knicks, who were without the services of Patrick Ewing (torn Achilles).

Although they were on the road facing a team that was desperate to keep its championship hopes alive, the Spurs outlasted the Knicks 78-77, giving the team it’s first championship.

Duncan led the way with 31 points and nine rebounds in 46 minutes of action. For the series, Duncan averaged 27.4 points, 14.0 rebounds on 54 percent shooting.

He also won Finals MVP, the third-youngest player to do so before Kawhi Leonard accomplished the feat at 22 years of age in 2014.
