April. 20, 2008: Spurs vs. Phoenix Suns
(Western Conference First Round, Game 1)

The Spurs and Suns were facing off in the postseason for the second time in as many years. The previous season, the Spurs defeated the Suns 4-2 in the conference semifinals en route to the team’s third championship.

Despite trailing by 16 points, the Spurs fought back and eventually sent the game into overtime, thanks to Michael Finley‘s three-pointer with 15 seconds left to play in regulation.

In the waning seconds of the first overtime session and the Spurs trailing by three points (104-101), Duncan nailed a three-pointer (his first of the season) to force a second overtime period.

The Spurs went on to win this memorable contest 117-115. Duncan finished the game with 40 points (on 16-of 24 shooting), 15 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Despite the Suns’ midseason trade for Shaquille O’Neal, the Spurs dismissed them in five games, with Duncan averaging 24.8 points, 13.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per contest.
