The sports world will witness another legendary player walking away from the game of basketball, as Tim Duncan announced his retirement after 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs selected Duncan with the top overall pick in the 1997 draft, but few of could have predicted how he would help change the fortunes of this franchise.

During Duncan’s lengthy tenure, the Spurs won at least 50 games the past 17 years — the longest streak in league history, and posted a winning percentage of at least .600 in each of Duncan’s 19 seasons — an all-time record for most consecutive seasons with a .600 win percentage in the four major U.S. sports.

Furthermore, the Spurs compiled an impressive 1072-438 mark during that span, giving the team a .710 winning percentage — the best 19-year stretch in NBA history.
